About Ashley

Ashley is an artist living and working in Provo, Utah. She creates colorful, impressionistic paintings of still lifes, interiors, and figures, drawing inspiration from the beauty and richness of everyday life.

Ashley studied illustration in college, where she discovered a love for the craft of oil painting. Since graduating with a BFA in 2017, she has continued to develop her painting practice while building a career in graphic design. Today, she works full-time as a designer while steadily growing her independent art practice, studying with professional artists and receiving several awards for her work along the way. Her paintings are an ongoing exploration of color, composition, technique, and the often-overlooked moments and objects that make up daily life.

Outside of the studio, Ashley can usually be found wandering a thrift shop, listening to murder mystery podcasts, or trying out a new recipe in her cozy kitchen.

“I am an artist that is ceaselessly inspired by everyday life and understated moments. I believe there is something to be felt and seen about the inanimate objects and spaces that we surround ourselves with everyday. Some of these objects are menial and routine, yet others we instill great meaning, and most lay somewhere in between. The spaces we occupy, and the housewares, cups, cutlery and dishes that we’re surrounded by everyday are objects that we become quite familiar with through routine and daily use. Even the most menial tasks and experiences can hold so much savor and richness to the human experience. Along with hundreds of artists before me, I find all to be excellent and very available subjects for compositional exploration and discovery. My current body of work is an observation of my current life, and the subjects that I am visually curious about. I view each painting as an opportunity to push my limits, whether it’s through scale, technique, color, or subject matter. I attempt to study and observe from life as much as I can, and for me, this is where the real joy of painting is found. Through my painting process, I hope to call my viewer’s attention to scenes and objects they may never have considered to be remarkable or worthy of being made into a painting.”
